First Beds
Just a quick background for those who don't know about the bed project. Thanks to the generosity of friends back home and in the USA we have been able to buy some beds for Great Commission Orphanage. This orphanage houses 120 children, who all sleep on cruel looking concrete floors. We are in the process of buying them 30 bunk beds, which cost around $65USD each. The director of the orphanage is building the beds with the teenagers that live at the orphanage, in way of teaching them a skill.
After the orphanage has been fitted with beds we will then be looking at buying livestock for the orphanage. The director, Joseph, tends a farm, which currently has quite a few pigs. When the orphanage has needs they kill a pig, to pay for sandals or school needs etc. There are hardly any sheep or cows in Liberia, so if Joseph can breed them, the orphanage can have sustainable income after Mercy Ships leaves. The initial quote so far is $25OUSD for a breeding pair of sheep.

Mean concrete floors, with sheets spread across them, to bed 30 children to a room this size.
Pads of luxury. As you can see, these concrete blocks are covered with only one thin sheet. Some children have placed scraps of cardboard under their sheet for padding.
My friend Drew Rawson unloading the first mattresses from the truck.

Into the hands of the excited children.
The orphans excitedly carry the mattresses into a new bedroom, recently constructed by Mercy Ships.

Standing inside their newly constructed bed, minus its base.

The orphans of Great Commission Orphanage say thankyou to all who have contributed to the bed/livestock project.
